Groveland Finance Committee Unanimously Approves $147,400 in Year-End Budget Transfers

GROVELAND — June 3, 2026 — Groveland Finance Committee approves $147,400 in year-end transfers and loses two members to resignation. The committee voted unanimously Wednesday to shift fiscal year 2026 surplus balances — led by a $104,000 communications wages overage stemming from the town's December 2025 transition to the North Shore Regional 911 Center — into nine underfunded accounts including legal, technology, facilities repairs and maintenance, and police overtime. Staff, presenting the package, described the legal line as the most uncertain, citing unanticipated police department legal costs and ongoing matters related to VZ Memorial Park leases as the primary drivers of an overage that a $10,000 draw from the health insurance surplus was needed to cover. The committee set its next meeting for August 19, when it expects to begin the fiscal year 2027 tax rate process. Long-time member Jim Scanlon resigned prior to the meeting, and the presiding officer announced his own departure after 14 years of service, telling residents, "If you are not part of the process to make things better, then you are surely part of the problem that keeps things the same."
