Finance Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Newbury's Finance Committee elected Frank Visconti chair in absentia and debated trimming a $15,000-plus price tag for a rare November 23 special town meeting. Town Administrator Tracy said roughly $9,000 of that cost is for electronic voting clickers, even though the town's last annual meeting drew only about 385 of 5,800 registered voters. One member said "it doesn't sound fiscally responsible to do this," while another defended clickers as a fix for past "perceived intimidation" under hand-count voting.
The committee separately approved a $1,540 reserve fund transfer for an Ipswich Regional Animal Control Program invoice and heard that fiscal 2026 free cash certified at $3,524,469. No vote was taken on the special town meeting costs; final figures return at the next meeting.
