Newbury Library Board Reviews Gallery Policy, Weighs Regional Consortium Value
Library · Meeting of January 13, 2026
Newbury Library Board of Trustees defers gallery policy vote, hears case for $33,000 regional consortium membership. At the January 13 meeting, Library Director Haley presented a draft gallery policy covering artist applications, reception logistics, and liability waivers, with trustees agreeing to circulate a finalized version by email before the February 10 meeting rather than vote on the night. The bulk of the meeting was devoted to materials prepared by Patty DeTuyo, identified as president of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, showing that the library's roughly $33,000 annual MVLC membership replaces services that would otherwise cost close to $800,000 — including approximately $92,000 for the integrated library system alone.
Trustees were told Newbury patrons currently have borrowing access to some 35 member libraries and more than $100 million in physical materials through the consortium. The director also reported that new Circulation Associate Stephanie Tenzel joined the staff January 6 and that the library's state aid, estimated at approximately $7,000, had been approved.
