Newbury Library Board Confirms New Director Will Start August 4
Library · Meeting of July 7, 2026
Newbury Library Board confirms new director hire with August 4 start date. The Library Board of Trustees, meeting Tuesday with members Alexander Burke and Richard Bassieri in person and Terry Ligris participating remotely, announced that a signed employment agreement is in place for an incoming director whose name was not stated publicly. Board member Burke said he would deliver signed copies to the town administrator, the Select Board, and the personnel board when he visits Town Hall the following week, and cleared staff to communicate the August 4 start date.
The board also heard that youth program attendance climbed from roughly 4,400 to 4,700 in fiscal year 2026, community room bookings rose from 130 to 174, and official visitor counts dropped from about 33,000 to 16,000 — a figure attributed almost entirely to a people counter that has been out of service since just after Christmas. Town IT is targeting August for the counter's replacement. The board set its next meeting for August 11.
