Newbury COA Advances Town Meeting Warrant for Senior Facility Cost Study

NEWBURY — March 23, 2026 — Newbury's Council on Aging is advancing a warrant article for spring Town Meeting to fund a full architectural study of a potential new senior center. Chair Cindy Cunningham told the board at the March 23 meeting that she has been meeting with the town administrator and Context Architect to shape the item, which would authorize the firm to produce detailed designs and cost estimates building on an ad hoc committee's prior work. A joint session with the Select Board drew roughly 30 residents and was described as generating "some good questions, some good feedback, some minor hostilities — but nothing unexpected or untoward." The board also heard a sweeping programs update covering events since two consecutive snowstorm cancellations, including a February lunch that drew 40 to 50 attendees and a new collaboration with the Newburyport COA on Wolf Tours coach trips. The board set its next meeting for April 13, after ruling out April 20 due to the Patriots Day office closure.
