Nahant board advances library gift deal, 2-0
Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Nahant Select Board closes beaches for a storm, advances a library funding deal, and fields resident complaints on trash and rental enforcement. Members voted 2-0 with one abstention to amend a gift agreement with the Friends of the Nahant Public Library ahead of an October 20 special town meeting, and unanimously committed $236,000.07 in unpaid fiscal 2026 utility accounts to tax liens. Town Administrator Allison said FEMA has set a November 15 deadline for the town to show permitting progress on the 40 Steps repair project or risk losing grant funding, and that the town is drafting a request for proposals after resident Brendan Brock said trash hauler Waste Management had missed pickups "the entire summer." Resident George Mahoven pressed the board over enforcement of a short-term rental injunction at 47 Little Nahant Road and objected to being left off a bylaw review committee, telling members "it's time to reinvent the wheel." The board also appointed Amanda Marash and Keith Olbash to the police department and Maureen Schultz to the building department, all unanimously, before entering executive session on two pending lawsuits.
