Hamilton board appoints Sullivan next fire chief
Select Board · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Hamilton Select Board names Daniel Sullivan fire chief, backs a dark sky lighting bylaw. The board voted 5-0 to appoint Deputy Chief Sullivan, a 26-year Wenham Fire Department veteran, effective October 1, succeeding retiring Chief Brunette, pending contract talks led by Town Administrator Joe. Dark Sky committee member Anne Gero presented research recommending Hamilton pursue a general lighting bylaw targeting a warm 2700 Kelvin color standard and an 11 p.m. lights-out time downtown, warning "I don't want to spend $2,000 to come in compliance with this" captured board members' worry about resident pushback.
The board straw-polled in favor of making the bylaw a goal for April 2027 Town Meeting. Separately, the board appointed Daniel Horgan to the Conservation Commission 5-0, tabled a Zoning Board of Appeals nomination to an August 31 Zoom meeting, and opened a first reading of a cemetery plot policy capping former-resident eligibility at $150 per plot.
