Beverly school subcommittee debuts one-hour meeting format, hears literacy tutoring gains. Instructional coach Cynthia Santo Suazo told members the Springboard tutoring partnership, funded by the state education department, gave 164 elementary students $61,000 in free after-school literacy tutoring last spring, with 93 percent meeting or exceeding reading growth goals at Centerville Elementary. She said the district loses access to underlying attendance and survey data once each program cycle ends, complicating long-term tracking.
Superintendent Cushing told the panel the district plans to form a technology-use committee after a parent raised concerns about student YouTube access, and apologized for not launching a promised LGBTQIA-plus parent advisory committee last year, saying "that is something that is going to help the community." Members also asked school committee member Catherine Frost, the panel's policy chair, to begin exploring an artificial-intelligence use policy. The subcommittee took no votes beyond a unanimous voice vote to adjourn.
