Saugus Planning Board continued a Route 1 cannabis dispensary review and cleared a stalled mixed-use project's site plan changes at its June 4 meeting. The board voted 4-0 to continue the public hearing for a proposed roughly 3,000-square-foot retail cannabis dispensary at 24 Broadway to June 18, with consulting engineer Kevin Halton noting outstanding questions on front-setback parking, planting island dimensions, a shared driveway requirement, MassDOT curb cut approval, and fire department sign-off still unresolved; applicant engineer Ian Ainslie of ISPREM said a Conservation Commission meeting is set for June 24 and that most peer review comments had been addressed. The board voted 4-0 to approve two site plan modifications at 180 Central Street as minor changes, accepting a flipped wheelchair lift and stair configuration and a National Grid transformer pad addition presented by Joe Pacelli of Sleepy Dog Properties, who said interior work on the building is largely complete and construction will resume once electrical service is established.

In a third 4-0 action, Member Robert Long moved to request that Building Commissioner Mike Lavecchia examine the volume of ledge being removed from the 1639 Broadway construction site, citing a bylaw provision limiting rock removal tied to a building permit to no more than 33 percent above what is needed to install a basement or utilities.
