Saugus Planning Board approved a site plan for a commercial project at 24 Broadway on a 4-0 vote, after an earlier version of the same motion deadlocked 2-2. The approval for applicant V&B Saugus Realty, represented by Yash Patel, is conditioned on the developer winning two zoning variances from the Zoning Board of Appeals and securing a driveway permit from MassDOT. Engineer Ian Ainsley said the project shifted to a separate driveway after the adjoining Army Barracks property owner refused shared access.
The board's attorney, identified as Schumer, warned members of a Land Court ruling this week on an unrelated Essex Landing variance that found it improper to condition a zoning approval on another board's action. Patel said the project has been in permitting for "four and a half years."
