Newbury Planning Board Continues Central Street Subdivision Hearing to June 3

NEWBURY — May 20, 2026 — Newbury Planning Board continues Central Street subdivision and receives broad housing and infrastructure update. The board voted unanimously at its May 20 remote meeting to continue the public hearing on a two-lot subdivision at 15 Central Street — applicant Michael Becker through 15 Central Street, Byfield, LLC — to June 3 at 7:15 p.m. via Zoom after a last-minute continuance request; applicant representative Tom Rogers joined the call moments after the vote was taken. Planning Director Kristen Grubbs announced a $10,000 grant from the Coastal Trails Coalition to fund title review for the Georgetown-to-Byfield segment of the Border to Boston regional trail, and said the town has signed on to a Merrimack Valley Planning Commission-led technical assistance study of MGL Chapter 40Y starter home overlay district zoning, with work expected through the fall and a possible bylaw for town meeting in 2027. Grubbs also flagged that the Conservation Commission, after a lengthy hearing the prior evening on the 34 Central Street wetland exit road, closed its public hearing without voting, with a decision expected at the commission's next meeting in two weeks.
