ANDOVER — The Andover Planning Board voted 4-0 to continue review of a Vicor Corporation storage building to November 10, pending a Department of Public Works stormwater assessment. Matthew Costa of Beals Associates presented the roughly 2,052-square-foot accessory building, which would store manufacturing chemicals currently at capacity inside Vicor's main building under state hazardous-materials limits. Vicor facilities director Rick Trial said the company takes three to four deliveries weekly and expects the new building to meet its needs for five to ten years.
Board members pressed on why the storage building sits apart from the main structure rather than attached to it, citing highway-proximity and parking-lot transport concerns; Trial said fire prevention Lieutenant Ryan Beale supports moving the chemicals into the new building, and town planning staff said fire officials see the plan as safer than the current setup. Separately, Macklin Weir of the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission briefed the board on a forthcoming battery energy storage systems bylaw, which the state does not require under its 2024 Climate Act, with a draft expected in December ahead of a possible spring Town Meeting warrant article. The board also approved its October 13 minutes unanimously.
