Newbury Library Plans September Centennial Event with Time Capsule Resealing

NEWBURY — April 21, 2026 — Newbury's public library is planning a centennial celebration for September 5, marking 100 years of service and 25 years in its current building. Library Director Haley Cart told the Board of Trustees at its April 21 meeting that the public event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a community photograph, a visual history timeline assembled by staff member Brady, a sheet cake, and the reopening of an existing time capsule — to be resealed for another 100 years with contributions from staff, trustees, and town departments. The board also approved replacement of its hotspot lending fleet with four new Mobile Beacon devices, discussed purchasing a small vacuum from donation funds to lift a food restriction in the meeting room, and noted that a March film screening co-hosted with the Newburyport Public Library drew 70 attendees. The board moved its next meeting to Wednesday, May 13, to avoid a conflict with the town election.
