Newbury Conservation Commission Elects Rimmer Chair, Brown Vice Chair in Leadership Transition

Newbury Conservation Commission seats new leadership and clears seven property matters in a wide-ranging July 7 remote session. Outgoing Chair Bob Connors, citing a travel schedule that would take him out of state or out of the country at least once a month, nominated Commission Member Mary Rimmer as chair and Member Mick Brown as vice chair; the commission voted unanimously to seat both. Rimmer, who has one year left in her term, said she would use the year to mentor Brown before stepping down.

The commission also issued four certificates of compliance — including a combined minor modification and COC for a COVID-era dock configuration change at 254 Middle Road — and approved an order of conditions for the Trustees of Reservations to rehabilitate four deteriorating bog bridges along a Boston Road trail, requiring 522 square feet of bordering vegetated wetland restoration as mitigation for 131 square feet of new wetland impact. Two Plum Island RDA applications were continued for more complete submissions.
