Nahant School Committee elects Beth Anderson chair and accepts Johnson Elementary improvement plan. The committee reorganized following spring elections at its May 11 meeting, unanimously electing Anderson chair, Greg Panessa vice chair, and Meredith Thibault secretary. Superintendent Rob Lebo briefed members on two competing Proposition 2½ overrides — a $1 million measure and a $650,000 "modest override" — heading to town meeting May 16, both of which include $191,000 in school requests covering an expanded ELA and math interventionist position, professional development, and a reduction in Circuit Breaker fund reliance; under state law, if both pass at the ballot, the higher-dollar measure prevails regardless of vote totals.

Three Johnson Elementary teachers — Kayla Harrington, Gabby Rademacher, and Katie Pastor — presented the school's 2026-27 improvement plan, centered on a second year of Eureka Math Squared, a pilot of the EL Education literacy curriculum, and expanded PBIS and social-emotional learning. The committee also approved a $176,204.74 bill roll and learned the school received 150 new Chromebooks through a Massachusetts Technology Collaborative grant.
