Peabody School Committee adopts 2026-27 improvement goals tied to a 20 percent achievement target. Superintendent Dr. Vidala presented goals aiming for a 20 percent increase in students meeting grade-level expectations by 2027, approved 4-0 along with a district improvement plan, $116,851.97 in warrants and student handbooks shrunk from 126 to 26 pages.
The committee also unanimously approved a memorial bench at the new PASOS playground for Joanne Pantapas, the program's director for 30 years, and accepted a summative evaluation of Vidala compiled by Mayor Betancourt, with Dr. Cox asking for more detail on individual members' input. During public participation, Beverly resident Michael Wisniewski said his son, who has an IEP and previously attended Peabody schools, was denied a school choice transfer back, asking "why are we choosing one over the other?" Building committee members also toured Attleboro and Arlington high schools ahead of the PVMHS project's design phase.
