Danvers board approves four wetland permits
Conservation · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Danvers Conservation Commission clears four wetland permits, presses pollinator-garden fix. The board, run Thursday by Mary Height, issued certificates of compliance for a town marina upgrade at 35 River Street, a Chalet Court-area hotel project at 152 Endicott Street, and a driveway project at 32 Center Street, all by unanimous voice vote. The night's real fight centered on 54 Sherwood Avenue, where consultant Bill Manuel proposed a pollinator garden to mitigate 744 square feet of riverfront-area impact under state rules requiring two-to-one mitigation; board member Andrew McNulty pushed for native trees and shrubs instead.
The commission approved an order of conditions with an added requirement that Manuel submit a detailed native-species list for conservation-agent sign-off. Precinct 4 town meeting member Andrew Hight told the board it felt like "changing the rules midstream." Staff also reported a suspected violation at a Lowe's site turned out to be permitted overgrowth clearing, and member Michael McCarthy announced plans to resign once a replacement is found.
