Wenham Select Board Votes 4-0 on Override, Special Election Set for June 16

WENHAM — April 6, 2026 — Wenham Select Board and Finance Committee clear 23-article warrant ahead of April 9 town meeting. Meeting in joint session Monday, the boards worked through the full warrant, with Select Board Chair Ben Tymon leading a 4-0 re-vote to recommend the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District operational override after a dissenting member's departure left the prior vote at four-to-one. The Finance Committee, chaired by Finn Sprague, noted that a library union collective bargaining agreement has not been settled and Article 7 may need to be passed over Thursday, delaying any wage increases for library employees by up to a year. Town Administrator Steve Poulos revised the projected electricity savings on the Iron Rail renewable energy lease downward to $700,000 from $800,000 based on updated pricing. The board voted 4-0 to set June 16 as the date for a special election to fill the board's vacant seat, citing concern that an earlier June 11 date gave nomination candidates fewer than two weeks to circulate papers.
