NAHANT — The Nahant Select Board voted unanimously to raise parking violation fines from $50 to $75 and filled three town vacancies. Members appointed Jacqueline Fallon to the School Committee, Christina Roberto as town health nurse, and Lola Chasen to the Cultural Council, all by unanimous roll call. Consultants from Context Architecture presented cost estimates for a new fire or police station, or a combined public safety building, running about $1,100 per square foot, roughly double a decade-old estimate of $450.
Town Administrator Allison said she opposes a combined building, citing limited flood-zone-free land, and is separately negotiating a one-year Waste Management contract extension after the hauler proposed a "14 increase" ahead of the June 30 deadline. Member Pat O'Reilly said the parking fine hike was meant "to dissuade people from parking where they're not supposed to be."
