SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott School Committee approved a new busing contract and multiple policy updates Thursday night. Members voted unanimously to award NRT Busing Inc. a transportation contract running from August 2027 through June 2030, with two optional one-year extensions, after a bidding process drew just one qualified bidder among 58 companies that pulled documents. Superintendent Jason Kalishman told the committee the district spent $89,100 this year on bus monitors, and said an added bus would cost $113,000 annually, roughly "a teacher and a half." Chair Glenn Pastor said the monitor figure "took me 20 minutes to put myself off the floor." The committee also voted 5-0 to retain Westwood-based VDH Law as a second outside counsel and approved Competency Determination standards for the Class of 2027.
Swampscott High School was named one of 12 Massachusetts high schools recognized statewide for academic growth on this year's MCAS results.
