School Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026
Saugus School Committee adopted a package of updated nondiscrimination policies and approved $1.4 million in bills. The committee voted 4-0 to update 11 policies, including civil rights, employment, and student harassment provisions, using Massachusetts School Committee Association model language ahead of an upcoming civil rights audit. Director of Pupil Personnel Services Traynor said an in-district program with the SHORE Educational Collaborative serves eight students for $600,000, far less than sending them out of district: "If those kids were out of district, we'd be talking millions of dollars." The committee also approved an eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trip costing about $1,100 per student and a marching band trip to Chicago.
Member Brian Doherty objected to new auditorium rental paperwork for town groups. Bills dated October 8, 2026, totaled $1,412,843.65.
