Newburyport Conservation Commission Continues Two Plum Island Cases to May 5

NEWBURYPORT — April 23, 2026 — Newburyport Conservation Commission continues two Plum Island applications, citing missing state paperwork. The commission voted 6-0 at its April 23 meeting to carry both a pool-removal Notice of Intent at 137 Old Point Road and a sauna installation application at 82nd Street by Prince Boateng and the Scog and Stone Sauna Company to its May 5 meeting, in each case because required documentation had not been received. Conservation Administrator Kelsey told the board that DEP staff member Alicia — who handles the 137 Old Point Road filing — said a file number should arrive within two weeks and that she was "glad to see a structure coming out of the sand on Plum Island." The 82nd Street applicants did not appear; Kelsey said she would contact them to require a signed site plan and to flag that their submitted operating-season language could imply a window of up to 270 days rather than the stated 180-day limit. The commission also previewed a coming revision of Newburyport's local wetlands regulations, including integration of a new OpenGov compliance checklist developed by the city's Resiliency Committee.
