Newbury Conservation Commission Extends Dock Permit, Schedules Site Walk for Boat Ramp Project

Newbury Conservation Commission grants permit extension and four continuances in a brief January 20 remote session. Chair Bob Connors and five members unanimously extended the permit for a Middle Road dock project — DEP file 050-1312, 254 Middle Road — through March 3, 2027, after consultant Tom Hughes of Hughes Environmental Consulting confirmed that COVID tolling and a state extension act kept the original November 2019 permit valid; Hughes said the installed dock is a T-shape rather than the permitted L-shape and eight square feet smaller than approved, with a resolution pending a conversation with the installation contractor. The commission also scheduled a January 22 site walk at 8 a.m. for a boat ramp and parking-area project at the same property, and continued four other open hearings — 45 Boston Road boardwalk expansion, Old Newbury Golf Club tee box relocation (DEP 050-1455), and an MBTA residential development at 34 Central Street (DEP 050-1453) — all to February 3.

Conservation Agent Mason Ferrett noted the Larkin Dam removal team has set a volunteer planting day for March 17 and a ribbon-cutting for mid-June.
