Nahant's override fails by about 24 votes, town warns of fiscal 2028 cuts. The town administrator told the Select Board the failed measure, trimmed from an original request topping $2 million, would have funded a school position and raised below-market town salaries, not just fire staffing. "Nobody asked me, came and asked me questions directly," the administrator said, adding staff morale "is down now." With three union contracts and a pricier trash-hauling bid due this year, the administrator said the standard two and a half percent levy increase "is not going to cut it" for next year's budget.
Separately, the Select Board and Housing Authority jointly appointed Dave Wilson to the authority, and approved letting a children's surf camp use Short Beach when state testing closes Long Beach.
