Select Board 2026-09-23 Part 2 · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Nahant's Select Board and Board of Assessors voted to keep a single fiscal 2027 tax rate and reject four optional exemptions. Assessor Sheila Hambleton told the boards the town would again decline a residential exemption, a small commercial exemption, a senior means-tested exemption and an open space discount, citing a shrinking pool of non-owner-occupied homes, limited commercial volume, low eligibility for the state's Circuit Breaker credit and the absence of any open space parcels. The boards reported excess levy capacity of $3,859.93 for the current fiscal year.

A board member named in the discussion as Allison said, "I just want to see what it may or may not benefit our seniors," regarding the means-tested option. The hearing will reconvene by Zoom Monday, September 28, at 10 a.m., ahead of an October 1 deadline to mail tax bills.
