Solid Waste Advisory Committee · Meeting of February 3, 2026

Swampscott's Solid Waste Advisory Committee asked the Board of Health to weigh in on a fire station dumpster. Precinct 1 resident Deborah Newman told the committee a rodent contraception pilot has run for two or three months, and said she wanted "support to convince the firefighters to compost" rather than get a dumpster. Members floated new public compost barrels at roughly $1,000 a year each.

The committee also heard that a contamination audit would cost at least $20,000, and that 2025 trash fell about 3 percent from 2024 on a nine-month projection. Members counted attendees for the March 24 MassRecycle conference, with tickets at $55 each.
