Zoning board continues 34-bed sober home case to August 4

Zoning Board · Meeting of June 21, 2026

Lynn zoning board delays vote on 34-bed sober home amid Fair Housing Act dispute. The Zoning Board of Appeals continued Grace House LLC's special permit request for 28 Linwood Road to August 4, after Attorney Stephanie Keeper argued the reduced-from-40-to-34-bed proposal qualified as a federal Fair Housing Act reasonable accommodation and a board member countered, "I'm concerned about that, and unless that's remediated, I don't feel comfortable in granting that." Ward 6 City Councilor Hogan, also council vice president, told the board 34 beds was "unacceptable" and suggested 15 to 20. The board separately accepted a 4-0 withdrawal of a special permit application for 9 York Road with fees returned, continued a three-family conversion at 96 Lot Street over a five-space parking dispute, and granted, 5-0, a special permit with stipulations for deck reconstruction at 206 Ocean Street.
