Saugus Volleyball, Field Hockey Teams Praised for Effort

HIGH SCHOOL -- School Committee member Mr. Gould told the committee on Oct. 8 that he had recently attended a Saugus volleyball match, saying the team "played really hard" despite facing an opponent with several taller players. He also attended a field hockey game, noting Saugus was "down 2-1" when he left but that the team "again... were playing hard" and "looked good." Gould said "all the teams are active doing well and the station pride is really back as far as athletics." The committee's Athletic Subcommittee was scheduled to meet the following Tuesday to review the athletic handbook, with a vote possible, along with emergency action plans and an update to the athletic department's financial forecast.

School Committee Chairman Mr. Donahue used part of his chairman's report to highlight breast cancer awareness month, noting that Saugus sports teams "always raise money" and hold "pink out games" for the cause, saying the gesture "means the world" to families touched by cancer.
