School Committee revives push to honor coach Steve Tisbert with field
Andover's School Committee discussed reviving a plan to dedicate the Andover High School softball field to longtime coach and educator Steve Tisbert, who coached softball for about eight years and taught in Andover for roughly 30.
ANDOVER -- At the Oct. 15 School Committee meeting, member Chris Scott told the board he had reconnected with Tisbert's daughter, Lisa Tisbert, about a long-stalled effort to name the softball field for her father. Scott said Steve Tisbert coached softball at Andover High School for about eight years and worked as an Andover educator for roughly 30 years. He said the dedication process "kind of fizzled out" in the past but that the family is interested in restarting the conversation, and he hopes to bring it to the committee's agenda through the policy subcommittee in time for the spring season.
HIGH SCHOOL -- The softball field dedication discussion was the only high school sports item raised at this week's School Committee meeting; no games were reported for the period.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Andover Soccer Association's online calendar lists Oct. 30 as the last night of its Development Academy, Nov. 7 as the last games of the fall season, Nov. 9 as its Annual General Meeting and Nov. 13 as the first day of the Winter Development Academy's first session.
The Andover Baseball Association's site shows in-house registration opening Nov. 1, with 2027 travel uniform try-ons set for Nov. 10 and 11.
