School Committee · Meeting of April 30, 2026
SAUGUS — The Saugus School Committee voted 5-0 to send a draft e-bike and e-scooter policy to legal counsel rather than adopt it. Member Dennis Gould made the motion after colleagues, including one identified only as Brian, warned the district could face liability for rules it cannot enforce, since state law sets 16 as the minimum e-bike age but younger students already ride them to school. In a quarterly financial report, staffer Ms.
Andrews disclosed a projected $190,000 utilities shortfall, tied partly to the athletic complex using "497,499 kilowatt hours more" than last year, plus a $369,000 special education transportation gap. The board also accepted a $13,900 Project Lead the Way grant and heard that new food vendor Whitson's guaranteed a $165,000 profit, up from past break-even contracts. Bills totaling $997,300.20 were approved 5-0.
