LYNN — The Lynn School Committee voted 6-0 to adopt a new policy restricting immigration enforcement access to school buildings, implementing the state's Protect Act locally. Compliance Officer Charlie Gallo and Director of Family and Community Engagement Francie DeLuz told the committee's Policy Subcommittee that immigration enforcement fear is keeping Lynn students and parents away from school, citing a Lynn student who described fear of "the kidnappers that take our parents." The committee also approved updated discipline and emergency-closing policies, elected two school nurses, and voted 6-0 to send the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education a letter opposing a translation-review regulation Gallo said could cost the district 4 million dollars, "46 teacher salaries." Members further voted 6-0 to oppose expansion of Pioneer Charter School of Science II and heard Superintendent Cohen warn that enrollment has dropped by roughly 1,000 students over two years heading into a difficult fiscal 2028 budget.
