North Andover Schools Win $29.2 Million State Reimbursement for Kittredge Elementary Rebuild

NORTH ANDOVER — February 26, 2026 — North Andover schools land $29.2 million in state funding for a new Kittredge Elementary building. The Massachusetts School Building Authority voted February 25 to approve the $79.8 million replacement project, with the state covering 36.6 percent of costs — just under $30 million in reimbursement — leaving the town responsible for $50.6 million. Select Board member and Kittredge School Building Committee Chair Laura Bates delivered the news to the School Committee the following evening, telling members the new building "will impact so many generations to come" and will include special education space, a gymnasium, a cafetorium, a maker room, and ADA-compliant infrastructure the current facility lacks. The town now has 120 days to accept the offer and appropriate the funds, with the binding vote scheduled for the May 12 Annual Town Meeting. Construction is planned to begin September 2027, with the building opening for the 2029-2030 school year. Separately, the committee announced that union negotiations with the district's teaching assistant unit, the North Andover Professional Support Association, will be conducted in open public sessions beginning March 9, streamed live on North Andover CAM.
