NAHANT -- January 6, 2026, Nahant School Committee approves $73,600 bill roll and restructures draft 2026-27 school calendar. At the committee's first meeting of 2026 on January 6, members voted unanimously to approve expenditures of $73,600.58 before spending the majority of the session on a draft academic calendar complicated by a late Labor Day on September 7, 2026. Superintendent Don Thibault warned that with no built-in snow days beyond the statutory five, even a single storm day would push the last school day past June 15. After extended debate over whether to place a professional development day on the Tuesday after Martin Luther King Day or the preceding Friday, the committee agreed instead to add two consecutive teacher professional days in late August, tentatively August 27 and 28, allowing students to start September 1 and eliminating a mid-year professional day to recover end-of-year buffer.
