Nahant School Committee Approves 2026-2027 Academic Calendar Unanimously
NAHANT — January 20, 2026 — Nahant School Committee unanimously approves the 2026-2027 school calendar at its January 20 meeting. The revised calendar shifts two professional development days to the final week of August before students arrive, schedules remaining professional half-days on Fridays, and sets the last day of school at June 15 with no snow days or June 23 with five — though the superintendent acknowledged the new structure technically conflicts with Article 10 of the teachers' contract, which specifies one pre-school professional day; the teachers association was surveyed and raised no objection. The committee also approved a bill warrant of $105,367.32, largely for special education placements. The superintendent reported two staff departures: teacher Nancy Gaggiano, who retired after 30 years including 18 at the Johnson School, and technology specialist Fabian Rue, who took a full-time position at Mitsubishi, with both positions now posted on SchoolSpring. The superintendent disclosed early-stage conversations with Swampscott about the possibility of enrolling Nahant's fifth and sixth graders there under a forthcoming five-year tuition contract, with busing bids due February 24 and a Thursday meeting with the Select Board planned to review the school's budget submission.
