Library Trustees Delete Nine Outdated Policies
Library Board · Meeting of February 2, 2026
Middleton Library trustees vote to trim nine outdated policies from their manual. Acting Library Director Jackie told the board that new facilities director Peter Coleman has flagged a wave of unbudgeted repairs, including a completed $2,298 gutter cleaning, a $2,420 quote for failing emergency-lighting batteries, and a roughly $8,000 server-room condenser headed for the fiscal 2027 capital plan. She said funding could come from state aid, trustees' discretionary money or the town budget, noting Friends of the Flint Library funds are restricted to furnishings and equipment.
The board also heard that the eighth annual Turkey Trot raised $30,000 townwide, with the Friends receiving a $5,000 check, up from $4,200 the year before. Trustees debated volunteerism versus paid staffing, with Jackie saying "a town hall, anything on volunteerism is not a way to run a business," and unanimously voted to delete nine redundant policies and merge two others into the manual.
