ESSEX — Manchester Essex school board adds $300,000 to Essex Elementary feasibility study, covered by MSBA reimbursements rather than new local assessments, bringing the appropriation to $1.8 million. A retired teacher, Janice Gothier, used public comment to protest the non-renewal of sixth grade teacher Jacqueline Marge, saying MCAS writing growth rose from 53 percent to 67 percent under her instruction and asking the board to "assist Superintendent Bowdoin in reconsidering her decision." The consent agenda passed 4-0 by roll call. Subcommittee member Pam reported the project's MSBA facilities presentation went well and the group is leaning toward a construction manager at risk delivery model, with a vote expected May 26.

The district is also launching an Essex Elementary before-school pilot estimated at $5,000 to $7,000 and shifting a pre-kindergarten position to kindergarten at Memorial School, where sections are running 23 students against a 17-to-19 target.
