SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott School Committee reviewed plans to bring back honors-level courses and weighed a draft financial policy, with no votes taken on either. Program of Studies presenter Ms. Zada said honors classes will run alongside AP courses in junior and senior year without adding staff, part of changes that also add electives in street poetry, retail marketing and marine science.
A finance official identified as Ms. Stella said revolving fund balances stood at 4.8 percent, below the policy's 10 percent target, after ending fiscal year 2025 at 4.4 percent. Superintendent Amy reported a "58% increase in grade level achievement in ELA K-4" tied to the district's targeted instruction program.
Student representative Leah said the honors option "is definitely going to help more kids stay challenged." The financial policy will return for further committee review after members submit written questions.
