Board votes to draft zoning for Iron Rail site
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Wenham Select Board grapples with a $2 million barn and a major zoning vote. Town Administrator Steve Poulos reported the town-owned Scout Barn at Iron Rail has a "completely compromised" building envelope, insect-damaged supports and unsafe second-floor egress, with repairs estimated at $400,000 to $500,000 just to make it weathertight. Chair Deirdre Pierotti said she wants to restrict second-floor access "in the very near future" but deferred a vote on a working group to study a replacement.
The board voted 5-0 to direct the Planning Board to draft zoning for the town's 91 Grapevine Road Iron Rail property, approved a no-cost YMCA of the North Shore discount partnership for town employees, and set April 1, 2027, for Annual Town Meeting. Poulos also said the town filed a lien against the delinquent Penguin Hall property, which owes roughly $293,000.
