Trooper's Family Sues Salem Restaurant Over Fatal Crash, Seeks $20 Million

SALEM — The family of a Massachusetts State Trooper killed in a wrong-way crash has filed a $20 million lawsuit against a Salem restaurant, according to a Patch report, even as City Hall pressed ahead with a busy slate of infrastructure work, scholarship announcements and a back-to-school donation drive.

The City of Salem is preparing to carry out a series of roadway, water, sewer, and drainage improvement projects across the city over the coming months, according to a City Hall announcement. Officials framed the work as part of an ongoing push to upgrade aging infrastructure through the summer and into the fall.

Mayor Dominick Pangallo also announced the winners of the 2026 City of Salem and Waste Management Scholarships, a program run in partnership with the waste-hauling company to support local students, according to the city.

Separately, City Hall is again asking residents to help stock supplies for local students through the "Feeling Fresh" hygiene product drive, which collects new, unopened personal care items. Organizers are asking community members to drop off donations by Aug. 12.
