Town Meeting · Meeting of May 4, 2026
Saugus Town Meeting voted 48-0 to create a committee studying six vacant school buildings and passed a new electric bike bylaw, while tabling a hunting ban fight until May 11. Town Meeting member Nuzzo of Precinct 10 said the town's master plan has "repeatedly" called for assessing the Ballard, Waybright, Lyndhurst, Oaklandvale, Evans and Robey schools, calling inaction "a decision to let these buildings decline." The e-bike bylaw, sponsored by Marchese, sets fines up to $300 and impoundment fees up to $300; Precinct 8 member Arthur Grabowski said he was "disappointed" the police chief skipped the meeting to explain enforcement. A proposed hunting ban near Prankers Pond, pushed by Precinct 1's Deborah Panetta after reports of discarded deer carcasses, drew over a dozen speakers on both sides before Moderator Steve Daugherty suspended the session until next Monday.
