School Committee Votes To Hire Boston Official As Next Superintendent
The Salem School Committee voted this week to offer the district's top job to a Boston Public Schools associate superintendent, while City Hall opened nominations for its annual civic-service honor and previewed a cocktail fundraiser aboard a historic tall ship to kick off Heritage Days.

The city is accepting nominations through Aug. 14 for the Sam Zoll Civic Leadership Award, an annual honor recognizing residents who strengthen the community through public service, volunteering, or bringing neighbors together, according to a City Hall announcement posted Wednesday.
The Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services Department also released its August newsletter this week, outlining the department's programming for the coming month.

The city announced an exclusive cocktail fundraiser aboard the tall ship Pride of Baltimore II on July 31 to benefit Salem400+ and Heritage Days programming. The evening kicks off a stretch of celebration that continues Aug. 1 with the Salem400+ Heritage Days Parade and Festival, billed by the city as a once-in-a-lifetime event tied to Salem's 400th-anniversary year.
