Saugus Sets July 20 Start for Sewer Subsystem 1D Design Work
SAUGUS — Design work is set to begin July 20 on the town's Sewer Subsystem 1D Rehabilitation Project, one of several infrastructure and community items the town highlighted this week alongside a push to mark 250 years of American independence.
TOWN HALL Design work on the Sewer Subsystem 1D Rehabilitation Project is scheduled to begin July 20, the town announced, part of ongoing upgrades to Saugus's municipal sewer system. Town Manager Scott Crabtree has separately issued an air quality alert and a high heat advisory for Saugus, urging residents to take precautions during periods of poor air quality and elevated temperatures. National Grid also has gas main work planned along portions of Central Street and Lincoln Avenue, according to a town notice.
The town is inviting residents to a celebration marking 250 years of the nation's independence, Crabtree's office said, part of a broader push for community participation in the milestone anniversary.
SCHOOLS The Saugus School Committee has approved its budget for fiscal 2027, according to the district website, following an earlier FY27 budget recommendation update Crabtree provided for Saugus Public Schools. Superintendent Michael Hashem continues to lead the district, which includes the Veterans Early Learning Center, Belmonte STEAM Academy and the Saugus Middle High School Complex.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Saugus Public Library's Summer Concerts at the Iron Works series continues July 22, when the free outdoor series welcomes Memorylaners to the lawn, following a July 15 concert from Renee Leavitt & the Renegades. A new exhibit, "Forged in Saugus: Donna-Marie Mironchuk," is on display through August in the library's Reading Room at 295 Central Street. The library's summer reading programs remain underway for children, with a Pokemon theme this year, as well as for teens and adults.
Wally, the Boston Red Sox mascot, is coming to World Series Park on Holden Avenue, according to Advocate Newspapers, with a fishbowl collection at the event benefiting the park.
COMING UP The library holds a CFCE Storytime for ages 0-6 on July 17 at 9:30 a.m.; registration is required. On July 20, the library's free Summer Reading Enrichment Program meets for grades 1-2 at 9:30 a.m. and grades 3-5 at 10:30 a.m.
