Saugus marks the nation's 250th birthday with a community celebration

**Saturday, July 4** — The town is marking the 250th anniversary of American independence today with a community celebration. Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree invited residents to take part in the festivities honoring the nation's semiquincentennial.

**Saturday, July 4** — The C.H.a.R.M. Center on Route 1 is closed today in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. Residents should plan accordingly for hazardous-waste drop-off needs and check the town website for the next available service date.

**Saturday, July 4** — Town Manager Crabtree has issued a warning about an upcoming extreme heat forecast for Saugus. Residents are urged to take precautions, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors and vulnerable family members during the heat event.

**July–August** — A new exhibit, "Forged in Saugus: Donna-Marie Mironchuk," is now on display in the Reading Room at Saugus Public Library, 295 Central Street, through the end of August. The library is closed today for the holiday.

**Coming up — Monday, July 6** — The Saugus Public Library reopens after the holiday weekend with two free Summer Reading Enrichment Program sessions: one for grades 1 and 2 at 9:30 a.m. and a second for grades 3 through 5 at 10:30 a.m. A Teen Jewelry Swap is also scheduled at 4 p.m. that afternoon.
