PEABODY -- The state's critical drought declaration has triggered mandatory outdoor water-use restrictions in Peabody, and Mayor Ted Bettencourt has issued a heat warning as the region copes with extreme summer conditions, according to the city.

The city says the statewide drought declaration now requires Peabody residents to comply with mandatory limits on outdoor water use, with details posted to the city's drought information page. Mayor Bettencourt separately issued a heat warning urging residents to take precautions as high temperatures persist across the North Shore.
