Mayor D.J. Beauregard has appointed Captain James "Jamie" Moore as acting chief of the Methuen Police Department, effective when Chief Scott J. McNamara retires on August 24, 2026.

TOWN HALL

Mayor Beauregard's office announced Sunday that Captain Moore will take over department leadership immediately upon Chief McNamara's retirement, marking the city's first change atop the police department in years. The announcement did not specify a timeline for a permanent successor search.

Separately, the city reminded residents that early voting for the 2026 State Primary continues through August 28 at Sanborn Hall, and that the deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot for that election is Tuesday, August 25 at 5 p.m., a story the town's News Flash also covered earlier this week.

SCHOOLS

Methuen High School holds new teacher orientation Tuesday and Wednesday, August 25 and 26, ahead of the full staff's return on September 1 and students' first day on September 2.

COMING UP

MHS New Teacher Orientation runs August 25 to 26. The deadline to apply for a 2026 State Primary mail ballot is August 25 at 5 p.m., and in-person early voting at Sanborn Hall continues through August 28.
