Methuen Early Voting for State Primary Opens August 22
METHUEN — Registered Methuen voters will be able to cast ballots early in person from August 22 through 28 at Sanborn Hall ahead of the 2026 State Primary, the city announced, as vote-by-mail applications also begin arriving in residents' mailboxes this week.

City Hall confirmed that early voting for the 2026 State Primary will run August 22–28 at Sanborn Hall, giving Methuen voters an in-person option ahead of Election Day. Residents who prefer to vote by mail can request a ballot using the postage-paid application now arriving citywide, with an August 25 deadline at 5 p.m. to apply for a mail ballot for the primary. Applications can also cover the subsequent State Election, according to the city's announcement.
Separately, the city noted that Captain Jamie Moore's appointment as acting police chief remains on track to take effect August 24, when Chief Scott J. McNamara's retirement becomes official — a transition first announced earlier this week.
The city also opened preregistration for a new curbside composting program in partnership with Black Earth Compost, giving residents a way to divert household waste ahead of a planned rollout.
