GROVELAND --
TOWN -- During a Sept. 21 public hearing, the Groveland Community Preservation Committee heard two eligibility applications from Recreation Committee member Stephen Hayes. One proposes shade structures at the Bagnell Elementary Playground, citing full sun during the 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. recess window; Hayes said the idea follows shade structures already installed at the Pines Recreation Area. The other explores a small park area between the Shanahan Field soccer fields and the river, noting that a similar project proposed years ago moved forward with soccer field improvements but not the park piece, reportedly due to neighbor complaints. Committee members noted any work near the river falls within the state's 200-foot conservation buffer and would require permitting. Both applications remain at the eligibility stage; next steps discussed included talking with the school and possibly the PTO about the playground project.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- Groveland Youth Soccer's Sunday in-town schedule has U8 Green set to face U8 Red and U8 Gold set to face U8 Blue, both games listed for 11:45 a.m. at Shanahan Field. The club has also posted a call for volunteers at the Snack Shack for an Oct. 3 session.
