Crabtree Warns Residents Ahead of Extreme Heat Forecast
Town Manager Scott Crabtree issued a warning to residents about an extreme heat forecast heading into the weekend, even as officials invited the community to help plan a celebration marking 250 years of the nation's independence.

Town Manager Scott Crabtree issued a public warning regarding an upcoming extreme heat forecast for Saugus, urging residents to take precautions in the coming days. The advisory comes as the town separately invites residents to take part in planning festivities for the 250th anniversary of the nation's independence.
In other town business, National Grid has scheduled gas main work for portions of Central Street and Lincoln Avenue, which residents in those areas should expect to affect traffic and access in the near term. The C.H.a.R.M. Center, the town's recycling and hazardous-materials drop-off facility, closed for the Fourth of July holiday and has since resumed its regular seasonal hours.
Two town board meetings are on the calendar this week: the Housing Authority meets Wednesday, July 8, and the Zoning Board of Appeals meets later this month on July 23.
SCHOOLS
Saugus Public Schools has posted its FY27 School Committee-approved budget along with the FY27 budget timeline, following Town Manager Crabtree's earlier update on the schools' FY27 budget recommendation. The district's most recent community newsletter, covering the end of the 2025 school year, remains posted on the district website as families look ahead to the 2026-27 academic calendar.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Saugus Public Library's Summer Concerts at the Iron Works series continues Wednesday, July 8, at 6 p.m. with the Brian Maes Band, a Lynn-based act, performing at the Saugus Iron Works. Earlier that same day, the library hosts CFCE Jump & Jive at 9:30 a.m. and Brie's Balloons Storytime at 10:30 a.m., both also at the Iron Works site, with a Saugus Fire Department-led storytime following on Thursday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m.
The library's Reading Room is currently featuring "Forged in Saugus: Donna-Marie Mironchuk," an exhibit on display through the end of August. The library's Adult Summer Reading 2026 program and a Pokemon-themed summer reading program for younger patrons are both underway, and the library has also put out a call for local artists for an upcoming exhibit. Separately, The Yoga Experience program at the library is on hiatus for July and August, with classes expected to resume in September.
Elsewhere in town, residents are being invited to place flags next to veterans' graves at Riverside Cemetery ahead of upcoming commemorations, and the town's Wellness Collective is organizing a walk at Breakheart Reservation as part of ongoing community health programming.
