Crabtree Issues Extreme Heat Warning as Holiday Weekend Begins

SAUGUS — Town Manager Scott Crabtree is urging residents to take precautions ahead of an extreme heat forecast expected to grip Saugus in the coming days, just as the town heads into the Fourth of July holiday.

TOWN HALL

Town Manager Crabtree issued a formal heat warning Tuesday afternoon, alerting residents to dangerous temperatures on the way. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and take advantage of cooling resources. The warning comes as the long holiday weekend approaches, compressing the window for people to prepare.

Also Tuesday, the town confirmed the C.H.a.R.M. Center — Saugus's hazardous waste and recycling drop-off facility — will be closed on the Fourth of July. Residents needing to use the facility should plan around that closure and the surrounding holiday schedule.

Town Hall itself will be closed Friday, July 3, and on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4. The Saugus Cultural Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, July 7.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Saugus Public Library is kicking off its summer concert series this week. Folk duo Atwater & Donnelly will take the stage Wednesday evening, July 1, at 6 p.m. on the lawn at the Saugus Iron Works. The free outdoor show is the first installment of what the library is billing as its Summer Concerts at the Iron Works series.

Also on the library's summer calendar: a Storytime with Gemma is set for Wednesday morning, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. The Saugus Fire Department Storytime, originally scheduled at the Iron Works for July 2, has been postponed to July 9. Music and Mother Goose with Miss Amy, requiring registration, is set for July 2 at 10:30 a.m.

The library's 2026 Summer Reading program — themed around Pokémon — is underway for children, with separate adult and teen summer reading tracks also running. A Teen Advisory Board is recruiting members interested in shaping teen programming; the group meets July 27.
