Crabtree issues air quality, heat advisories as sewer project design set to begin

SAUGUS — Town Manager Scott Crabtree issued back-to-back advisories this week warning Saugus residents about poor air quality and an extreme heat forecast, as the town also announced a July 20 start date for design work on the Sewer Subsystem 1D Rehabilitation Project.

Crabtree issued an air quality alert for Saugus, cautioning residents to take precautions during the affected period, and followed it with a separate warning about an approaching high-heat advisory forecast for the town. Neither notice specified pollutant levels or a temperature threshold, but both point to the town keeping residents updated as summer conditions intensify.

Separately, the town announced that design work will begin July 20 on the Sewer Subsystem 1D Rehabilitation Project, an infrastructure upgrade to part of the town's sewer system. Saugus also invited residents to a community celebration marking 250 years of the nation's independence, part of the ongoing America250 semiquincentennial recognition.

The Saugus Public Library's summer concert series returns to the Iron Works lawn July 15 with a performance from Renee Leavitt & the Renegades, part of the library's ongoing outdoor concert schedule at 295 Central Street. The library's Reading Room is also hosting "Forged in Saugus," a exhibit on artist Donna-Marie Mironchuk running through August.

Elsewhere in town, a Wally the Green Monster appearance is in the works at World Series Park, according to a report circulated via Advocate News, with a fundraiser collection for the Holden Avenue park planned alongside the visit.

The library hosts a CFCE storytime for ages 0-6 (registration required) at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, and will be closed all day Saturday, July 18. Free Summer Reading Enrichment programs return Monday, July 20, with a 9:30 a.m. session for grades 1 and 2 and a 10:30 a.m. session for grades 3-5.
